Queenstown Mountain Biking
You're in the largest mountain biking area in the Southern Hemisphere, so it's fair to say you are spoilt for choice: Queenstown Bike Park, Coronet Peak, Cardrona, Glendhu, 7 Mile, the list goes on and on. You can use the interactive map above to get a great idea on where the trails are, click on them for more information and we recommend downloading the Trail Forks App so you can view this on the move.
Firstly its not too late to book a days Guiding, Shuttles or even a Heli biking trip of lifetime >>
We'd recommend getting started with riding Queenstown Bike Park using the Skyline Gondola will provide quick and easy access to a huge variety of trails, right in the centre of Queenstown. Lift passes can be bought on the day from the gondola.
Another "must ride" is Coronet Peak, there is the upper lift accessed bikepark and a huge network of awesome trails below this such as the famous "Rude Rock" and "Hot Rod". We can arrange shuttles of these trails or if you're feeling fit then it is possible to pedal up the road.
For a break down on all the other riding area's please check out our Queenstown Ride Guide below.
Queenstown Biking Essentials
A list of essentials you'll need when out on the Queenstown Mountain Bike trails:
A Mountain Bike thats up to the Job:
We reccommend at least a Modern Enduro Bike with 150mm+ front and rear suspension, good disc brakes suitable for long descents and dual ply enduro tyres. Having the right bike will allow you to explore the area and keep you safe. If your bike isn't up to the job then you can hire one a wide range of Queenstown Mountain Bike Hire >>
Riding Protection:
As an absolute minimum we reccomend riding in a modern enduro helmet, biking specific shoes and knee pads. Depending on your ability we'd highly reccommend protecting yourself with the following: a full face helmet, kneepads, elbow pads, body armour, glasses/goggles and biking specific shoes.
Riding Essentials:
One of the best things about Queenstown mountain biking is how quickly you can get out of the bikepark and into the "backcountry". Its important to be prepared when doing this, so we reccommend bringing: a good multi tool, water bottle, snacks and a spare inner tube. Also the weather can change quickly in the mountains so check the weather before you head out and take a waterproof if required.
Bike Shops:
Queenstown has a great selection of Bike Shops with everything you could need for parts, equipment and servicing. We highly reccomend Vertigo Bikes.
Remember if anything goes wrong and someone is seriously hurt or in danger, call 111 for emergency services.

Queenstown is known for its diverse food options, wide array of wineries/breweries and vibrant après bike scene. Enjoy a local brew from the vast array of micro brewerys, head to one of the famous Gibbston Valley Vineyards, or a fine meal while sharing stories of your biking adventures. Heres a few of our favourites below:
Atlas Beer Cafe
A Queenstown Mountain bike institution and most riders go-to after biking spot. Offering a huge selection of craft beers, plus some great food and steaks.
FergBurger & FergBaker
No trip to Queenstown is complete without trying the legendary Fergburger. After winning several awards for the "Worlds best burger" and featuring in countless Lonely Planet guides to Queenstown, you have to join the constant Queue to see what all the fuss is about.
Fergbaker next door offers some of the best pies (a kiwi staple) and other baked goods without the queue. Perfect for a mid ride quick lunch.
World Bar/Yonder
Another Queenstown Institution and a lively place for a drink almost any night of the week, with plenty of live music and DJ's often playing. Just watch out for that sore head the next morning...
Blue Kanu
One of our favourite Queenstown Restaurants, offering fresh polynesian fusion dishes at descent prices.
Canyon Brewery
Located right by the shotover jet you can hang out in the beer garden whilst watching the jet boats wizz past. Offering some of the best craft beers in NZ as well as amazing food options.
Gibbston Valley Wine Tours:
The Otago region is World renowned for its wine and Gibbston valley is right at the centre of this. Take a winetour to explore the vineyards and taste some of the best wines the World has to offer right from the source.
